The Super Eagles of Nigeria have lost their first match of the African Cup of Nations qualifier after a shocking defeat to Guinea Bissau on Friday, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.

The Nigerian team lost by a goal to nil at the Moshood Abiola Stadium, Abuja after a 30th minute goal by Mama Balde.

The Super Eagles started with a lot of momentum, controlling the game and creating chances that could have put them in front.

A brave save by the Guinea Bissau goalkeeper Mendes denied Victor Osimhen what could have been the opening goal.

However, it was the Visitors that would score after a gaffe by the Nigerian defense which allowed Mama Balde round off Francis Uzoho to score.

It could have been two minutes later but for a disappointing finish by the Guineans which left the score respectable at half time.

At the start of the second phase of the game, Coach Jose Peseiro made a double change as Paul Onuachu and Moses Simon replaced Kelechi Iheanacho and Ademola Lookman.

The Super Eagles tried to up the ante as Osimhen saw his shot blocked while he appealed for a hand ball, but the referee wouldn't listen.

Moses Simon got what could be regarded as the best chance of the Eagles, but he fluffed the ball with his weaker left foot.

With another chance some minutes later for the Host, but it was wasted.

Peseiro brought in Frank Onyeka and Ahmed Musa at some point in the game, but all to no avail as the Guineans stayed resolute for a famous win against Nigeria.

It is Nigeria's first loss this year, first loss to Guinea Bissau and first loss in the African Cup of Nations qualifier after three matches.

The result see Guinea Bissau go top of the group that will be at home in the second leg of the tie on Monday.
