Guinea Bissau recorded a resounding 5-1 win over Sao Tome and Principe in the opening game of the 2023 AFCON qualifiers to move top of Group A which has the Super Eagles of Nigeria and the Leone Stars of Sierra Leone, Nigeria Soccernet can report.
Zinho Gano was the star of the evening as he scored twice on his competitive debut with Alfa Semedo, Banjaqui and Jorginho scoring the other 3 goals for the host.
Sao Tome and Principe only goal was scored by Edmilson Viegas. It was actually the opening goal of the fixture.
The result placed Guinea Bissau at the summit of Group A on goal difference although they are level on points with the Super Eagles of Nigeria who beat Sierra Leone 2-1 in Abuja on Thursday evening.
Guinea Bissau will hope to consolidate on their position on the log when the next play away to Sierra Leone.
