Despite suffering a 2-1 defeat to the Super Eagles of Nigeria of Thursday evening, coach of Sierra Leone John Keister says his players can be proud of their performance, Nigeriasoccernet can report.
The Leone Stars despite scoring first in the encounter surrendered their lead for a defeat in the hands of their host a result which was not too bad going by their resilience throughout the encounter.
Speaking after the game, John Keister said: “We were disappointed not to get something out the game. We came here with a positive feeling. We felt we could go back home with a positive result.”
“We have a lot of young players in the team and it reflected in our performance. They took their eyes off the ball and allowed Victor Osimhen to score the second goal.
“In the end, the experience on both sides reflected in the final result. We could have another goal too.”
“It was a performance we can be proud of.”
Sierra Leone will play host to Guinea Bissau who hammered São Tomé and Príncipe 5-1 in the other group A game played on Thursday.
