AFCON 2023: Pedro Goncalves eyes AFCON glory, targets final showdown

In a quest for triumph at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, Angola's head coach, Pedro Goncalves, sets his sights on a coveted spot in the final, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.

The Southern African face a formidable challenge against three-time winners Nigeria in a quarter-final clash at the Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium, Abidjan, this Friday.

Despite a near-perfect campaign in Cote d’Ivoire, with three wins and one draw in four games, Goncalves recognizes the upcoming match as the ultimate test.

Having never clinched the AFCON title, Angola aims to break barriers, with Goncalves emphasizing the aspiration to reach the final and contend for victory.

“Whoever reaches the quarter-finals has to aim to go as far as possible, and the furthest possible is to reach the final and propose themselves as a candidate for victory,” The Portuguese said.
