AFCON 2023: CAF increase Cash Prize for Winners by 40 percent

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced a substantial increase in the prize money for the winner of the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d'Ivoire, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.

In contrast to the previous edition in Morocco, where Senegal claimed $5 million as the tournament victors, this year's champion will receive a boosted cash prize of $7 million, marking a 40% increase.

Moreover, the runners-up will see an increased reward of $4 million, surpassing the $2.7 million awarded in 2021.

“CAF has demonstrated notable progress over the past two years in elevating the prize money for the AFCON and its other major competitions, reflecting a commitment to enhancing the stature of African football.

“I am confident that a portion of the Prize Money will contribute to developing football and also benefit all the football stakeholders, as well as assist our Member Associations with their administrations.” The President of CAF Dr Patrice Motsepe said.

The 2023 Africa Cup of Nations is scheduled for January 13 to February 11, 2024.
