Some Israelis are backing their countryman, Avram Grant to succeed as Ghana’s coach in the ongoing African Cup of Nations Cup.
Avram Grant is currently in Equatorial Guinea with Ghana’s Black Stars and his latest victory was a 2-1 victory against South Africa to book Ghana a place at the knock-out stages of the tournament.
Ghanaians will be certainly be happy with the former Chelsea, West Ham manager and the confidence is also quite high in his home country.
Several Israelis are optimistic Avram Grant will get the Stars to the final stage of the tournament.
Maya Koye, a dealer in jewelry, in Tel Aviv, the financial capital of Israel, exclaimed: “He is our hero!!!”, as she sat in front of her shop.
She continued: “Avram Grant is one of the best coaches in the world. He is hard working and gives one hundred percent in whatever he does and he will certainly take your group [Black Stars] to the final stage of the AFCON. We will always be a fan of Grant irrespective of the team he coaches.”
In Jerusalem, Israel’s capital, the idea that Grant would succeed in Ghana was also widely held. A tour guide, Uri Golani, another believer in Grant’s methods was optimistic that Avram Grant had what it took to transform the nation’s team but was quick to add he would need the help of all Ghanaians to succeed.
Another fan, Erez Mohamed, who lived in Tiberias in the northern Israel seemed very informed on Ghanaian players and added his fellow Israeli would take Ghana very far in the 2015 AFCON.
“I follow Ghanaian football a lot. I know Michael Essien, striker Asamoah Gyan, Andre Dede Ayew and these guys are fantastic!
I believe, the Black Stars will Ghana will go all the way even to the finals because of the quality of players you have and most especially because of Avram Grant.”
John Depp, an Israeli of American descent was not too happy Grant had been named coach of the Stars.
For him, Grant’s experience would make Ghana a stronger team and that would mean bad news for his beloved USA especially as Ghana and the United States could meet again at the World Cup.
The two teams recently played each other at the 2014 World Cup in a match that saw the Americans beating the Black Stars 2-1.
Depp did not think his country outclassed Ghana and is skeptical that such a result would happen again especially with Grant in charge.
“Americans were very lucky with the Stars at the last World Cup in Brazil and I pray we never play them ever again.”
