AFCON 2015: Ghana coach Avram Grant satisfied with team's output despite Senegal defeat

Ghana coach Avram Grant believes his team did well despite the crashing 2-1 defeat suffered against Senegal on Monday.

The Black Stars threw away a first half lead to ultimately lose their first game at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations in Mongomo.

Andre Ayew had given Ghana a deserved lead through the spot kick after 13 minutes.

But a resurgent Senegal hit back in the second half with two goals through Mame Biram Diouf and Moussa Sow to win the game.

Avram Grant who was presiding over his first competitive game as coach of the Black Stars says his team did well despite the defeat.

“I think we did very well, this is the reason we scored one goal and had very good chances against a very experienced team,” he told GHANAsoccernet.com.

“We played without our main striker [Asamoah Gyan], he is the best striker in this tournament – his stats for Ghana is unbelievable.”

Ghana faces early elimination from the tournament being staged in Equatorial Guinea unless they are able to secure a result against Algeria in their next group game on Friday.

Goalkeeper Brimah must stop giving short passes to his defenders and hit the ball into the opposition half. He cost us a lot of pressure in the 2nd half.

He cannot possibly be satisfied with a team that gave up a last gasp goal that cost them at least one point. Let them know about it, Avram Grant. That does not mean you are throwing them under the bus.
