AFCON 2015: Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan plays down title talk for the Black Stars
Asamoah Gyan wants to focus on each match rather than the title

Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan has played down talk of the Black Stars winning the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations title insisting they are taking one match at a time in the continent's flagship competition in Equatorial Guinea.

The Black Stars have been to each of the last four Nations Cup semi-finals but last won the trophy in 1982 when the tournament was hosted by Libya.

A broody and sullen group has been transformed into a squad with a spring in their step after they put aside the disappointment of losing in the last minute to Senegal in their opening Group C clash.

The 1-0 victory over Africa's top ranked side Algeria on Friday has sparked talk that the Black Stars could win the title in the competition but Gyan says it is too early.

“We have confidence in ourselves that we can take on any country but it’s far too early to talk about the trophy,” Gyan said.

“We must focus on the group and qualifying first. We mustn’t be concerned about permutations and who we could be playing next. You can’t dodge teams in this tournament. You play who you get,” said Gyan.
