AFCON 2015: Andre Ayew rues missed chances in Ghana defeat to Senegal

Stand-in Ghana captain Andre Ayew says the side needs to improve on its scoring following the 2-1 defeat to Senegal on Monday.

The Black Stars got their campaign at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations to the worst possible start when they surrendered a first half lead to lose the game.

The Olympique Marseille enforcer put Ghana ahead after 13 minutes through a penalty kick.

Ghana had chances thereafter to extend their lead but these opportunities were spurned.

Senegal came back strongly in the second half to snatch the vital win with goals from Mame Biram Diouf and Moussa Sow.

Ayew who captain Ghana in the absence of ailing Asamoah Gyan in the defeat on Monday admits the team needs to do a lot better in their attack.

“We were leading and in the first half we had two chances more to kill it. If we’d even one out of the two chances we would have been 2-0 up and will be a totally different game,” he told MTNFootball.com.

“But we couldn’t and that is part of the game – we’re going to score goals, we’re going to miss goals but what is important is that the second half performance wasn’t good enough.

“We need to work on it and prepare [for the next game].”

Ghana face an early exit from the tournament being staged in Equatorial Guinea if they are unable to get the result in their next group game against Algeria on Friday.

The players didn't respect their opponent and as a result they weren't mentally focused and prepared. It showed after the first goal. Hard work beats TALENT when Talent doesn't show up/

Atsu is an unwise player. He has skills and speed but very foolish. He needs to work on his goal scoring ability. He did the same during the word cup. Nonsense!
