Achraf Hakimi resumes on-pitch training as Paris Saint-Germain recovery continues

Paris Saint-Germain defender Achraf Hakimi has returned to individual training on the pitch as he begins the next stage of his rehabilitation from a minor right thigh injury.

The Morocco international completed the session on Friday, marking an important step towards a gradual return to competitive action. Paris Saint-Germain said in its latest medical bulletin that Hakimi was continuing with his programme to return to training, but the club did not give a date for his comeback in official matches.

Hakimi was injured last Sunday during Paris Saint-Germain’s Ligue 1 match against Brest. The right-back was forced to leave the field in the 39th minute.

Medical examinations carried out the following day showed that Hakimi had suffered a minor injury to his right thigh. Paris Saint-Germain said he had subsequently been following a specific treatment programme.

His availability for next Sunday’s top-flight meeting with Olympique de Marseille remains uncertain. A decision will depend on how his fitness develops and on the assessment of the club’s medical and coaching staff.

The news comes as Paris Saint-Germain look to improve their start to the Ligue 1 season. The club claimed its first victory in the most recent round of matches after recording two draws and one defeat from its opening fixtures.

Paris Saint-Germain currently sit seventh in the table with five points.

Hakimi’s fitness is also being monitored by Morocco, with national team coach Mohamed Wahbi having included him in the squad for the country’s upcoming fixtures.

Morocco, known as the “Atlas Lions”, are due to face Gabon on 25 September before travelling to play Lesotho on 29 September. They will then meet Ghana in a friendly in Tangier on 4 October.
