AC Milan have identified Granada’s 17-year-old winger Owen Emeka as a potential signing after scouting a match in Spain, with the Italian club considering activating his €15m release clause.
The Rossoneri were at Granada’s 1-1 draw with Albacete on 12 September to assess the versatility of Dylan Rodriguez. However, it was Emeka who made the strongest impression, producing a powerful individual run before finishing at the near post.
The Nigeria-born winger had already attracted attention with a memorable performance against Real Madrid in the semi-final of the Under-19 championship. His latest display reinforced the confidence Granada’s hierarchy have placed in him and has increased interest in the player’s contract clause.
At 17, Emeka has also made an early mark at senior level. He has scored in six Segunda Division appearances this year, becoming the second-youngest goalscorer in Granada’s history.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, AC Milan want to move ahead of their rivals by initially placing Emeka in the club’s reserve team. The proposed move is subject to a tight timetable, however, with Real Madrid also monitoring the winger closely in Spain.
For AC Milan, paying the €15m clause is the only way to distance themselves from the Madrid club and complete the signing of the Spanish-Nigerian prospect. The clause is now viewed as an opportunity in the market given the level of interest in the player.
Granada have acted to secure Emeka’s future by recently handing him a long-term contract running until 2031. Despite that commitment, his current valuation on Transfermarkt stands at €1m.
Emeka’s next opportunity to add to his senior experience will come when Granada face Real Sociedad B in the eighth round of LaLiga2.
