2026 Wolrd Cup Playoffs: Coach Eric Chelle laments Wilfred Ndidi suspension

Nigeria's head coach, Eric Chelle, has expressed concerns over the absence of midfielder Wilfred Ndidi in the 2026 FIFA World Cup playoffs final against the Democratic Republic of Congo, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.

Ndidi was suspended after receiving his second yellow card of the qualifying series in Nigeria's 4-1 win over Gabon on Thursday.

Chelle acknowledged Ndidi's importance to the team, saying, "Ndidi is an important player for us. His experience, ability and leadership on the pitch are important for this team."

However, Chelle remains optimistic, stating, "We will manage the situation. We have a large squad of players and we will make changes."

Brentford midfielder Frank Onyeka is expected to replace Ndidi in the starting lineup.

The Super Eagles will face the Leopards of DR Congo in the playoff final on Sunday, with a ticket to the intercontinental playoffs on the line.
