2026 FIFA WCQ: "We dont fear them" - Broos on star-studded Super Eagles

Published on: 08 September 2025

South Africa coach, Hugo Broos, in highlighting the quality in Nigeria's Super Eagles, said emphatically, his team is not scared, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.

Ahead of Tuesday's World Cup qualifier against Nigeria, Broos acknowledged the strength of Eric Chelle's squad, which boasts 12 players from Europe's top five leagues.

The list consists of Atalanta forward Ademola Lookman, Fulham trio of Alex Iwobi, Calvin Bassey, and Samuel Chukwueze, Paris FC Moses Simon, Lazio's Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, and many more.

However, Broos insists his team will show no sign of fright.

"It is not because they’re six points behind us that you’ve to think Nigeria isn’t a good team.

“When you see their players, they all play abroad in big teams in Europe, so that means there is quality. But we don’t have fear going into tomorrow’s game.

Despite Victor Osimhen's absence, Broos believes the Super Eagles still have what it takes to mount a comeback in the World Cup qualifiers.

Nigeria currently sits third in Group C, while South Africa tops the standings with 16 points.
