2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup: Waldrum set a knock out stage target

Ahead 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, Super Falcons coach Randy Waldrum said the first target for the team is the knockout phase.

The women senior national team are drawn in group A along side co-hosts Australia, Canada and the Republic of Ireland.

Although Waldrum's believe look realistic but the Super Falcon have gone past the group stage twice in their eight appearances. The recent being at the last edition in 2019 in France and in 1999 when the team got to the quarter final.

“The first target for us at the World Cup is to advance out of the group stage,” Waldrum told the nff.com.

“Everyone wants to get to the knockout stage but obviously in order to achieve that, you have to advance out of the group and now, our focus is principally on doing that.”

The team will be camped in Brisbane where they will play two of their three matches, with the other game in another Australian city, Melbourne.

The competition will run from July 20 to August 20, 2023.
