Coach Avram Grant has handed late call ups to TP Mazembe duo of Daniel Nii Adjei and Yaw Frimpong for Tuesday’s friendly against Congo and the AFCON qualifying match against Rwanda on Saturday, the Ghana FA has reported.
The duo were invited as replacements for injured Godfred Donsah and Emmanuel Agyeman Badu who could not join the rest of the squad who are currently in Congo.
The technical team of the Black Stars of Ghana were in a battle with time to replace injured midfield duo of Godfred Donsah and Emmanuel Agyemang Badu ahead of the Afcon 2017 qualifier with Rwanda.
The two midfielders were named in the 24-man squad announced a few days ago by coach Avram Grant but late injuries have denied them participation in the September 5 encounter.
Agyemang Badu picked up a knock at training ahead of their Serie A encounter with Palermo while Godfred Donsah picked a shoulder dislocation in the 55th minute in his debut game for Bologna in their 1-0 defeat to Sassuolo.
Coach Avram Grant opted for players who are close to the camping venue of the Black Stars in Congo ahead of the match in Rwanda.
As such the duo from TP Mazembe who have excelled for the club in their African club competition were the closest to have been called for the assignment.
Players from Europe were difficult to get because of the time that should have been allowed to inform their clubs in Europe.
Five U-23 players have also been invited to join the team for this afternoon’s friendly as a result of the absence of some players from the original 24-man squad.
The Black Stars will be playing Rwanda in Kigali on the 5 September in the 2nd group game in the 2017 Afcon qualifier after thrashing Mauritius by 7-1 at the Accra Sports Stadium on June 4.
