Ex-Ghana captain Charles Akunnor has hailed the late call-up handed to Sogndal IF attacker Mahatma Otoo as a replacement for injured striker Abdul Majeed Waris.
Though Otoo was not part of the preliminary 31-man squad named by the Israeli gaffer but he trained with the Ghana squad in Accra before the team left for Spain.
However with Trabzonspor forward Majeed Waris ruled out of the tournament, the former Hearts of Oak man was brought in as late replacement to augment the squad.
And, Akunnor feels it was a good decision by former Chelsea coach Avram Grant.
"Every coach has what he wants and we must respect that. I know Mahatma Otoo and I believe the coach saw what I knew in him.
You don’t need to be with a team for years before a coach sees something good in you. Even a touch is enough to provide a coach with what he wants. The injury of Majeed Waris made it necessary for Mahatma Otoo to be invited," he told Sports Crusader.
Otoo is capped once by Ghana at senior level.
