Mark Warburton has guided Nottingham Forest to 13th in the Championship this season
Nottingham Forest manager Mark Warburton says he is keen to trim the Championship club's first-team squad.
The Reds brought in seven players ahead of the August transfer deadline and several of last season's players have found themselves on the fringes.
Warburton told BBC Radio Nottingham: "We have some very talented players but the squad is too big at the moment.
"There's too many talented players not getting the pitch-time their quality deserves and that has to be looked at."
Forest are eight points adrift of the play-offs and 11 clear of the relegation places and despite selling striker Britt Assombalonga to Middlesbrough for £15m, goalscoring has not been a major issue.
However, they have conceded 33 goals in 20 matches, including four against Ipswich last weekend.
Tendayi Darikwa was the only defender signed by Warburton in the summer, but the Forest boss has no regrets.
"I am not trying to sound clever but if you find a centre-half who is dominant in the air, physically and can play out like Beckenbauer, then fine," he said.
"But they will cost your £25 million and play in the Premier League on £100,000 a week, that's the truth of it. You find as you go down every division, there will be a certain attribute a player can or can't do.
"From our point of view we are only going to bring players in if they are significantly better than we have got.
"But let me assure you there is work being done looking at players in so many different positions. If the decision is right then we make the move for Nottingham Forest."
