Ghanaian youth forward Kwadwo Poku climbed off the New York City FC bench to assist a goal and score to help them to a 3-1 routing of Montreal Impact in the American Major League Soccer on Saturday night.
The 23-year-old big forward had replaced Patrick Mullins 15 minutes from full-time with the scoring pecked 1-1 and made a big difference for the Sky Blues at the Yankee Stadium.
But the Kumasi-based forward first assisted fellow substitute Mix Diskerud to put NYCFC ahead in the 76th minute before he put his name on the score-sheet on the brink of full-time.
Poku had used his brimming energy to penetrate the visitors defence and connect a pass for Diskerud who scored for the host.
Then, the moment came for the Ghanaian international to crown his big moment, racing through the middle and finding David Villa down the left flank. Villa's return pass beat two Impact defenders and reached Poku who sent a cool right footed shot from the center of the box to the bottom left corner.
While Poku was coming off the bench to get his first ever goal for New York City FC, winger Dominci Oduro who has returned from injury had on the Impact bench for the entire duration of the game.
