Ghanaian international winger Ishmael Yartey came to the rescue of Portland Timbers coach Caleb Porter when he stepped out of the dug-out to set up the match-winner in Timbers' 2-1 victory Colorado Rapids in the American Major Soccer League on Saturday night.
The 25-year-old Sochaux loanee climbed off the bench in the 88th minute to set up Jack Jewsbury for the winner in the 93rd minute to save the coach.
Pressure had been mounting on manager Porter with fans shouting for his removal after Sam Cronin had cancelled out Gaston Fernández's 38th minute opener.
But Yartey who had been introduced with two minutes of normal-time left for play as replacement for Maximiliano Urruti conduced a massive inside the box to set up Jewsbury for the match-winner deep inside stoppage-time.
It was a workload prepared by Nagbe for the Ghanaian international, who sacrificed everything inside the box to slit a pass to the American who buried his effort beyond the keeper to claim all three points for Timbers.
While the game was ongoing, online polls among the club's fans were circulating as to whether Porter should still carry on as Portland's manager and could have come under huge pressure if the club had lost the game.
But Yartey's last-minute heroics aided the pressure off his shoulders.
Yartey, a former Benfica star, is on loan at Timbers till June ending and could return to Europe after the expiration of his loan deal.
