Ex Ghana captain Stephen Appiah has advised home-based players to dedicate themselves to the sport rather than prioritizing making money.

The former Black Stars captain made these remarks in a meeting between the Professional Footballers Association of Ghana and captains of the various Premier League clubs.

The meeting was to raise awareness of the PFAG’s line up programs to help enhance the working conditions of home-based players.

The professional player union led by some of the notable former and current Ghana internationals have been at the forefront of a crusade to improve the conditions of services of local players in areas of securing a minimum salary cap, improved medical care and pension schemes.

But Appiah, who is the Vice President of the PFAG in his address at the meeting urged local players to revive their passion for the game rather than being fixated on making money.

“When I was playing in the local league I put the passion before the money and not the money before the passion,” the former Juvetus star said.

“You have to love the game and dedicate yourself to the sport before the rewards come.”
