Juventus face Real Madrid in the second leg on Wednesday night

Stephen Appiah is backing former club Juventus to secure a result against Real Madrid to qualify for the finals of the UEFA Champions League.

The Italian giants go into the second leg game of the tie at the Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday night wielding a 2-1 advantage.

Juventus’ prime focus will be to avoid defeat against a strong Madrid attack spearheaded by Cristiano Ronaldo to make a sensational return to the finals of Europe’s biggest club football competition.

But the odds are stuck against the Old Lady as they have never made it this far in the competition since losing the final in 2003 against AC Milan.

But Stephen Appiah, a former player of the club believes the tagged underdogs have a good chance of causing an upset against the defending champions.

“Football of today, you don’t have to think. You have to just go and show what you can do on the pitch,” the former Black Stars captain said.

“They [Juventus] got the result when they played at home so they had the advantage.

“It is very difficult to play in Madrid but I spoke to Pavel Nedved three days go and he told me that they are ready and they’re going there to win the game.

“Football is not played with names anymore. It is not how big the team is.

“It is all about how you want the game. I am wishing both teams the best of luck but I am supporting Juventus.”
