Dream Team coach Samson Siasia has said he is relieved his mother has been freed by kidnappers and his target now is to qualify his team for next year’s Olympics at the U23 AFCON.

Siasia’s mother, Ogere Siasia, was kidnapped two weeks ago in their village in Bayelsa State while the coach was away in training camp in The Gambia and she regained her freedom on Friday.

An elated Siasia who could not hide his emotions, said he is relieved knowing that his mother is now back in the comfort of their home unhurt.

"Words can't express how I feel, all I want to say here is thank you to all Nigerians especially the NFF who stood by myself and my family in our trying times, it has not been easy but by his grace we have overcome, for me all I can say now is, based on the support shown me and my family, all I can do to repay Nigerians is to go out there and pick an Olympic ticket for the country,” he said.

The former Super Eagles coach said he is not aware whether the family had to pay a ransom before his mother was released.

Nigeria begin their U23 AFCON campaign on Sunday evening against Mali in Mbour.

Kick-off time is 7 pm.
