REVEALED: New Liverpool Defender Joel Matip's Signing-On Fee and Wage Leaked

Published on: 25 May 2016

"?Schalke centre-half Joel Matip is finally set to join Liverpool when the transfer window formally opens in the coming weeks.

German newspaper "?Bild have revealed the signing on fee and weekly wage that the 24-year-old will receive from his new employers.

According to the report, the Cameroon international will pocket a £3.8m signing on fee when he joins the Anfield club on a free transfer.

Furthermore, Matip's annual £5.4m salary works out at around £100,000 per week, which is likely to put him among the top earners at the club, such as captain Jordan Henderson and star striker Daniel Sturridge.

With Martin Skrtel and Kolo Toure set to leave the club, and Mahmadou Sakho still banned due to a failed drugs test, it is likely that Matip will be the man that Jurgen Klopp builds his defence around next season.

Such a status befits a high wage, which is also offset by the lack of transfer fee involved in bringing the centre-half to Anfield, as well as the likely high resale value of a player who has great experience but is still a few years away from his peak.

Matip is not the only new arrival from the Bundesliga on Merseyside this summer. The arrival of goalkeeper Loris Karius from Mainz was announced yesterday, with the 22-year-old expected to replace the error-prone Simon Mignolet as first choice at Anfield.
