Referees Threaten To Boycott NPFL Games Over Attacks

Published on: 12 July 2016

The Nigeria Referees Association have threatened to pull out their men from officiating matches in the Nigeria Professional Football League following attack on match officials during last weekend's matchday 26 between Warri Wolves and Wikki Tourists

The NRA only last week also threatened to boycott matches in the country's third tier, the Nationwide League, over the same claim.

President of the association Tade Azeez condemned the attack on the officials, insisting they will no longer tolerate such act from players, clubs and their supporters.

"The attack on referees has surprisingly continued with Sunday's attack on the referee who handled the Warri Wolves versus Wikki Tourists game," Azeez said in a statement released by the body.

"The NRA has considered it necessary to boycott all matches involving any team where referees are either harassed or physically assaulted by them and their supporters."
