Plateau United skipper Elisha Golbe was recently honoured at Federal College of Education Pankshin, Plateau State for his outstanding contribution to sports in Pankshin Local Government and Plateau State in general.
Golbe who is an alumnus of the institution led Plateau United to a first-ever Nigeria Professional Football League title and has been making appearances and giving motivational speeches at various grass-root competitions in Pankshin and other places.
The centre-back was honoured by the National Association of Ngas Students (a body of students of Pankshin heritage) for using sports to inspire the youths in Plateau State.
In a well-attended ceremony, Golbe was described as an ambassador of Pankshin youths who has distinguished himself in his chosen career and has carried the flag of the institution in a positive manner.
Golbe told npfl.ng that he is humbled by the award which will spur him to do better as a professional footballer, a human being and as an ambassador of youths in Plateau State.
“The award came to me as a surprise and I was also told it’s the first time a sportsman or footballer has been so honoured by the association,” he revealed.
“Being recognised by your own means you are doing something great and this can only ginger me to do more to bring glory not only to my people but Nigeria as a whole.
“By virtue of our NPFL win, we are going to represent Nigeria and not just Plateau State. This is a pointer for me and my team-mates and we will do our best to give a good representation of Plateau State and Nigeria.
The defender holds a National Certificate in Education (NCE) and a Bachelors Degree in Physical and Health Education from the institution, a feat many are not aware of.
“Yes, not a lot of people know that I’m a graduate as you know it is always difficult for a professional to combine both. I finished my NCE in Physical and Health Education at FCE Pankshin in 2007 while I was able to tidy up my Bachelors Degree in the same course in 2013,” Golbe said.
“It wasn’t easy but I thank God for everything as he made it possible for me to achieve such. I’m still aiming high in my football and academic pursuit.
“I’m glad and honoured with the award by the association and the love shown to me by the management and staff of the college. It can only help me do more.
