Nigeria Super Falcons Coach, Randy Waldrum has spoken ahead of his team's CAF Olympic Qualifier against Cameroon on Friday asking that his team bring the same momentum as the World Cup when they play, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.
The US tactician who returns to the team after a while of absence states the goal for the team is to qualify for the world biggest sporting ebe after missing out on the last two occasions.
"The goal obviously is to qualify for the Olympics. We can't look ahead of ourselves as to the success in the Olympics until we get there. So, qualification is going to be the primary goal. Everyone knows we got a difficult set of matches coming up against Cameroon. So all the focus will be on those two matches," He told the Super Falcons media.
Waldrum agrees that the Cameroonians will come for revenge after the Nigerian team stopped them from featuring at the last World Cup. He states that the Indomitable Lionesses are a good side, but he believes in his team to take the day if they bring their FIFA Women's World Cup form to the game.
"They will and if I understand history correctly, I think Cameroon stopped us from going to the Olympics a few years back or in 2012. So, I think the two countries know each other very well and they certainly have a lot of talent and they are very dangerous especially in the counter attacking style of play. But I really like our squad. I like the team, I like the team chemistry. We were able to get all our players back in for these matches and I think that is very important. So, if we can put together our performances like we did at the World Cup than I really like our chances."
He further reveals that the Falcons however need to build on and make better what was achieved at the World Cup where they lost to finalists England in the round of 16.
"We need to carry on from what we did in the world cup and build on it and even be better. The difficult part for these matches or any of our upcoming matches is the window of time; the international break doesn't give you a lot of training time. So we have to rely a lot on our experience at the World Cup to take through especially this first match in Cameroon before we get a few really good days of training before our second match."
The Super Falcons arrived Douala Cameroon on Wednesday for the encounter at the Stade de la Reunification.
