NWFL: Bayelsa Queens' slim win over Osun Babes ensures Super 6 spot

Published on: 12 April 2023

Defending champions, Bayelsa Queens have qualified for the 2022/2023 Nigeria Women's Football League NWFL Premiership Super Six tournament after their slim win over Osun Babes, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.

The Prosperity Girls piped their opponents by a goal to nil courtesy of a first half goal by Olapade Zaniab in Osogbo on Wednesday.

The encounter was between two sides that were in need of a good result to either continue fight to escape relegation in Osun Babes or progress to the super six in Bayelsa Queens.

But the tie started rather unfortunate for the home team going a goal down as Olapade Zaniab's freekick at the edge of the box 18 put the visitors in front at the Osogbo Township Stadium.

The home side had the opportunity to equal score in the additional time after they were awarded a penalty after a foul on Rebecca Omodele, but Omodele missed the penalty kick as the ball hit the bar.

The tie ended, leaving a soar taste in their mouths while Bayelsa Queens migrate to the Super Six competition alongside group A leader, Delta Queens and group B, Confluence Queens.
