NWFL: Bayelsa Queens, Edo Queens complete Super Six spot

Published on: 24 April 2024

Bayelsa Queens and Edo Queens joined Rivers Angels as the three teams from group A of the Nigeria Women Football League to qualify for that super 6 competition on Wednesday, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.

Bayelsa Queens made the berth despite losing to Robo Queens 2-1 at home at the Samson Siasia Stadium after edging them on goal difference.

Folashade Ijamilusi opened score for the Lagos LandLadies after 38 minute of the game. She made it two in the 68 minute of the game.

As Robo Queens pushed to score more goals to aid their super 6 qualification chance, but the hosts pull one back through Blessing Abiola inside nine minutes additional time.

A point was enough for Edo Queens who played a 1-1 draw with 2023 champions, Delta Queens at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba.

After cagey affair for over 80 minutes, substitute Odoma Amarachi broke the deadlock and put the visitors on the brink of Super Six qualification.

However, Arit Itu restored parity for the hosts on 90 minute to end the game at 1-1. It was enough for Edo Queens qualify with 23 points second behind Rivers Angels in group B.

Heartland Queens, Nasarawa Amazons and Confluence Queens had secured the super 6 ticket last week from group A while Rivers Angels who now joined by Edo Queens and Bayelsa Queens qualified from group A.
