NPFL: Bayelsa United charged for breaching regulatory framework

Published on: 17 June 2024

Bayelsa United have been charged for breaching framework and rule following their matchday 37 encounter against 3SC on Sunday, June 16, 2024, Nigeriasoccernet.com gathered.

The charges stem from several infractions during the game. Firstly, Bayelsa United failed to provide adequate security and effective crowd control, which resulted in the assault of 3SC goalkeeper Okiemute Odah.

Additionally, they did not restrict access by unauthorized persons to restricted areas, contributing to the incident involving Odah.

Moreover, there was encroachment onto the pitch at Bayelsa United's Samson Siasia Stadium home ground, which further escalated the situation involving the goalkeeper.

Consequently, Bayelsa United has been sanctioned with fines totaling N3 million.

This includes N1 million for each of the breaches: inadequate security, failure to restrict access, and pitch encroachment. In addition to the fines, Bayelsa United is required to compensate Okiemute Odah with N250,000.

Furthermore, they are mandated to identify and prosecute the perpetrator of the assault within 48 hours of receiving the notice of sanctions.

Failure to comply with this directive may result in additional penalties being imposed on the club.

Pending the identification and prosecution of the culprit, they will be banned from all NPFL match venues for a period of one year.

Bayelsa United have been given a 48-hour window from the date of notice to appeal these sanctions and provide any necessary evidence in their defense.
