The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF)  is  merely breathing as it could not meet basic financial obligations to staff and stakeholders. The seriousness of the problem of the once- buoyant football body emerged yesterday following a volte face to interview the two foreign coaches shortlisted for the vacant Super Eagles job via Skype as against earlier decision to invite them to the country. A highly reliable source confirmed that the federation has opted for an online interview of the selected coaches because it cannot afford to invite them over here as it cannot, at the moment, afford return tickets for the two shortlisted coaches. “We don’t have the funds to invite them over and that is the honest truth. Inviting them would also mean that they would be accommodated in top hotels for at least two or three nights. Since we don’t have the funds the option open to us is interview them via Skype”. Our source said that after the interview, the successful candidate would then be invited to formally meet with the federation. Asked why the federation is going ahead to hire a foreigner when it cannot afford return ticket to shortlisted expatriates, he confirmed that the federation has secured a reliable payment partner that will cater for the needs of the successful coach. Independent gathered that the partner, Nigeria’s oil giant NNPC, has signed a bond amounting to $ 1.5 to offset the cost of hiring the foreign coach.
