English side Newcastle have pulled out of the race to sign Ghana star Andre Ayew, who is a key target for Liverpool and Roma, saying the wage demands are too high for their budget.
According to The Chronicle, Newcastle United have moved on from Marseille forward Andre Ayew as they don't believe he represents good value for money.
The Magpies are expected to appoint former England boss Steve McClaren as their new manager this week according to the BBC, hopefully sparking a new era for the success-starved fans on Tyneside.
McClaren will want to completely overhaul his squad at St. James' Park having only survived relegation to the Championship on the final day of the Premier League season, and bringing in new arrivals will be paramount to the new manager.
But one player who seemingly won't be heading to the North East is Marseille star Ayew, who is available on a free transfer this summer.
The Ghanaian international, 25, has been prolific for Marseille in recent years, but is now ready to move on with his contract set to expire with the Ligue 1 giants.
A move to Newcastle has been suggested, with The Mirror recently suggesting that Ayew was a top summer target for the Magpies. However, that doesn't appear to be the case.
The Chronicle believe that Ayew - who is also a target for Tottenham according to ESPN - is no longer a target for Newcastle because he doesn't represent good value for money.
Now, given that Ayew is available for free, this must mean that the player is asking for astronomical wages which Newcastle simply aren't willing to pay for a player with no Premier League experience.
