Morocco 2025: CAF postpone AFCON by SIX month

Published on: 21 June 2024

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) have confirmed a new date for the 2025 African Cup of Nations initially proposed for June, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.

CAF on Friday evening announced the Africa’s most prestigious football tournament to be coming up on December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026.

With FIFA increasing the number of teams for the Club World Cup and the schedule likely to clash with the 2025 AFCON in Morocco, CAF have now taken the decision to shift the tournament forward.

The draw for the biennial competition is scheduled for next month in Johannesburg, South Africa, with qualifying matches set to take place from September to October 2024.

Nigeria’s Super Eagles at the 2023 AFCON played in early 2024 finished runner up to Côte d’Ivoire, the host nation.
