Konrad de la Fuente, a USA international for Marseille, has paid homage to France's FIFA World Cup champion and former Barcelona colleague Ousmane Dembele for shaping him into the player he is today.

Konrad De la Fuentes was born in Florida to Haitian parents and relocated to Spain in 2011, when his skill was discovered by Barcelona at the age of 12.

De la Fuente earned his first-team debut for the Catalan giants last season after following in the footsteps of Messi, Andres Iniesta, Xavi Hernandez, and others by going through the famous La Masia development program.

Despite only making three brief appearances, including two UEFA Champions League cameos, he trained with the club's senior side on a regular basis and found a fan and advisor in ex-Rennes player Dembele.

"He's a very funny guy, always in a good mood," explained De la Fuente. "He's one of the best players in the world, he's been really unlucky with injuries. He helped me to feel good on the pitch, to play at the right tempo, and to have faith in my abilities."
