Luis Suarez was one of the first players set aside by Barcelona boss Ronald Koeman, as the Dutch manager deemed his as surplus requirements in the summer of 2020. Suarez has cemented a fantastic legacy in Catalunya, with 198 goals across six years that included four La Liga crowns and one UEFA Champions League title.

The Atletico Madrid striker has now disclosed how he was conveyed his status as surplus by Koeman.

Speaking on Twitch, Suarez said: "The call from Koeman to tell me that I wasn't in his plans lasted 40 seconds, it's not the way to say goodbye to a legend. First he told me that I wasn't in his plans, and then he told me that if I didn't get my contract sorted out I was going to play against Villarreal. He lacked the personality to tell me clearly if he didn't want me or if it was really the club that didn't want me."

The Uruguayan marksman helped Atletico to the Spanish league title in 2020/21, whereas Koeman is now facing the sword at Barcelona.
