Speaking to Swiss media, Allof confirmed Rodriguez was hoping to leave Wolfsburg: "As we have recently entertained was clear: His idea is to leave us"?, Allofs declared.

The 23-year-old Swiss international has previously signalled his intent to leave Wolfsburg, and Arsenal have been linked strongly with the left-back. Rodriguez is reportedly good friends with new Arsenal signing and international team-mate Granit Xhaka, and has "?previously stated his excitement at a potential move to the Gunners.

"That would be exciting, yes, especially because the room arrangement at Arsenal would be fixed as well."

Rodriguez has been pictured consistently with Xhaka since the former Borussia Mochengladbach captain was announced as Arsenal's first summer signing, with both the Switzerland internationals currently preparing for Euro 2016.

"?"?Rodriguez scored twice and created three assists during the Bundesliga season, and has been included in a strong Switzerland squad, which includes Juventus defender Stephan Lichtsteiner, Stoke's Xherdan Shaqiri and Basel's youth prodigy Breel Embolo. Monreal has impressed this season after claiming the left-back spot, whilst Gibbs has mainly had to serve as an understudy to the Spaniard, and missed out on a spot in the England squad for the Euros as a result.
