Williams Admits He Will Be Nervous Watching Bale in Champions League Final

Published on: 27 May 2016

"?Swansea and Wales defender Ashley Williams says panic will set in when watching his fellow countryman Gareth Bale play in the Champions League final this evening, "?ESPN reports.

Real Madrid winger Bale is the star of the show for Wales often, and it would be a massive blow to not have their number 11 playing in the European Championships this summer.

Bale scored seven of Wales' eleven goals in European qualifying, ultimately seeing them

qualify for the tournament in France this June.

However, Gareth Bale will have his sights set on winning the Champions League trophy for a second time during his tenure at Real Madrid tonight in Milan, before thinking about what the summer beholds.

Every single Welsh supporter will watch on hoping he comes out of the game unscathed, as well as the Wales squad from their training camp in Portugal.

Williams said: "I've spoken to the gaffer [Chris Coleman] about this and we had a laugh, I don't know what to do, whether to watch it or not. I'm really pleased for Gareth and want him to win, but at the same time I want him to just get through the game. I don't want to watch him because every time he goes down I am going to be panicking."

When Williams was asked about his fears of Bale being injured, he said: "Let's not talk about what if he wasn't available. We just hope he is there because we know he will do his job as always.''

Bale scored the last time he played in the Champions League Final going on to win 4-1, coincidentally against the same opponents as he faces tonight.

Bale, 26, would become the youngest British player ever to lift the trophy twice if Real Madrid get the better of their opponents and rivals Atletico Madrid tonight, and Coleman is backing the Galaticos to do it.

"I'd watch the game anyway, even if none of the boys were involved,'' said Coleman.

"But we'll watch it together as a squad. We all hope Madrid win it again and if they do it's incredible for Bale. A Cardiff boy and he would be a two-time Champions League winner in three years. Absolutely fantastic.''

Bale is due to team up with his Welsh teammates on Tuesday.
