Why Jamie Vardy Needs to Accept Arsenal's Offer and Join the Gunners

Published on: 03 June 2016

"?Before he can focus on Euro 2016, Jamie Vardy has a big decision to make in the next couple of days: stay with Leicester and simply carry on from the good feeling of last season, or accept an offer to join Arsenal after the Gunners triggered his £20m release clause.

A lot of people are already questioning why Vardy would even consider leaving Leicester after the year he's just had, but he absolutely needs to choose Arsenal. It's that simple.

Vardy has enjoyed an incredible rise at Leicester. He's now a Premier League champion, no one can ever take that or the precious memories away from him, so he's not putting anything at risk by moving. But the opportunity to join a huge club with the reputation and global standing of Arsenal is not one he can afford to pass up.

If it had been Chelsea, Manchester United or even Manchester City pursuing him instead, it would be exactly the same situation. And any decent Leicester fan with an ounce of respect or gratitude for what he's done for them wouldn't hold it against him either.

For someone who was playing non-league football as recently as 2012, Vardy probably never thought he'd ever get the chance to play Premier League football, let alone sign for one of the most famous teams in the world.

Leicester are a brilliant, brilliant club, but Arsenal are on a different level. They're no better on the pitch right now, but they have much more to offer in so many other ways. It's important to state that this argument has nothing to do with whatever sums of money he's been promised.

Should he go ahead and make the switch, Vardy can look back on his career in 20, 30 or 40 years and proudly say, 'I played for Arsenal, one of the most successful clubs in the history of English football'.

If he doesn't take this chance, he could easily end up regretting it.

The likes of Riyad Mahrez and N'Golo Kante, each just 25 years of age, can still afford to stay with Leicester for at least another season and see this epic run through without potentially jeopardising their respective chances to move to an elite club further down the line. Time is still very much on their side.

Vardy will turn 30 in January and doesn't really have that luxury. If he chooses not to go for the big move now, it will likely never happen for him.

If he wants to make the most of the incredible opportunity the last few years have presented him with, Vardy has no choice but to accept the offer on the table and become an Arsenal player. He owes it to himself.
