"?West Ham United have beaten off competition from a number of clubs to complete the signing of 16-year-old Portuguese talent Domingos Quina, a player who was previously in the youth ranks at Chelsea and was heavily linked with a switch to Arsenal.
He will begin as a scholar with the Hammers, who have confirmed the teenage forward has agreed to sign a professional contract when he turns 17 years of age in six months' time.
Guinea-Bissau-born Quina has only recently participated for Portugal at the Under-17 European Championships in Azerbaijan where he helped his adopted country claim a sixth title.
"Attracting a player of Domingos's quality and potential to the Club is recognition of the stature with which the West Ham United Academy is held," academy director Terry Westley told WHUFC.com.
"Domingos spent a month training with us before heading to the European Championship finals and he has seen what we are all about, the way we work and the pathway and plans we put in place for our young players.
"Domingos is an exciting young player and he has seen that we can help him to develop and make the most of his many talents at West Ham United. He wants to come on our journey the same as the likes of Martin Samuelsen, Reece Oxford and Reece Burke see their futures here."
Westley also revealed that first-team boss Slaven Bilic personally met Quina while he was training with the club, and suggested it was a key moment in persuading the youngster to commit to West Ham over anyone else.
"This is a big signing for the Academy and for West Ham United," he added.
