"?"?While he was voted England Player of the Year for 2015, Rooney endured a poor campaign at club level, with the more prolific performances of prodigious pair Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial forcing the 30-year-old to accept a midfield role in order to simply make the Manchester United starting eleven.
Rooney has recently expressed that he sees his future in the centre of the park, and is expected to feature there for England in the forthcoming European Championships, despite failing to entirely convince in a midfield role at Old Trafford.

During his time as Chelsea manager, Mourinho made no secret of his admiration for Rooney, and tried to bring the Liverpudlian to Stamford Bridge in the summer of 2013, when David Moyes succeeded Sir Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford.
However, it remains to be seen what the Portuguese makes of Rooney this time around. The 53-year-old is known to favour dynamism and discipline in his midfields, and it by no means a foregone conclusion that Rooney's aging legs will fit the bill, as he tries to rebuild Manchester United as title contenders.
