"?"?The Premier League champions were previously told by the Hornets, that the striker was not for sale, but that did not deter their pursuit.

Deeney scored 13 league goals (15 in all comps) for Watford last season, helping to ensure that the club survived their first season back in the top flight.

Several clubs are said to be interested in securing his services for next season, but Leicester have tried to jump ahead of the pack with an audacious bid. According to the "?Leicester Mercury, Watford won't consider a bid unless it is substantially higher than the initial offer.

Claudio Ranieri is reportedly keen on pairing the Watford man up front with Jamie Vardy next term, as Leicester expect him to remain with the club despite Arsenal's attempts at a transfer.

The Gunners triggered the striker's release clause last week, also offering doubled wages of £120,000-a-week, but Leicester have moved to retain their star man with an offer of their own, and it is believed that he will reject the London move and commit his future to the club.

Watford, like Leicester, are also keen to hold on to their forward, and the 27-year-old is a big part of new boss Walter Mazzarri's plans.

This is not the first time that the Foxes have attempted to snatch Deeney from Watford. Reports claim that the Hornets rejected three bids - with the highest being £10m - from Leicester while they were still playing Championship football in 2014.
