Watford Closing in on Deal to Sign Juventus Midfielder Roberto Pereyra

"?Watford are closing in on a deal for Juventus midfielder Roberto Pereyra, according to the "?Watford Observer.

The 25-year-old suffered with injury for most of the past season, only making 13 Serie A appearances in a debut campaign for the champions. Watford, though, have not been put off by that fact and are looking to strike a deal at the soonest.

New Hornets manager Walter Mazzarri is intent on signing the Argentine player, whom he has come up against whilst working with Italian clubs Napoli and Inter Milan.

It is understood that West Ham are also keen on acquiring Pereyra's services, and reports suggest that their manager Slaven Bilic tabled an £11.4m bid for the player last month.

Mazzarri, however, is said to be leading the race for Pereyra, who joined Juve from Udinese for £11m back in 2014.

The player has 10 caps to his name, having made his international debut for Argentina against Brazil in 2014. But he was left out of the Copa America squad by Tata Martino as a result of his injury-stricken campaign in Italy.

Pereyra would certainly offer the Hornets a great option in attack. He is an adept crosser of the ball, who would provide many of opportunities for strikers Odion Ighalo and Troy Deeney.

He is also a great dribbler, and his ability to keep possession of the ball as well as pass it, makes him a threat in the final third.

If Mazzarri can secure him, it would definitely send a message to Premier League rivals, given Watford's respectable league performance last season.
