Vincenzo Montella Urges Milan Players to Show More Hunger in Serie A on Friday

Published on: 16 September 2016

"?Milan head coach Vincenzo Montella has urged his players to show more hunger when they take to the field against Sampdoria in Serie A on Friday night.

The Rossoneri currently sit 15th in the league table, with only three points from three games at the start of the season, with last weekend's home game against Udinese ending in a 1-0 defeat. That was on top of a heavy 4-2 loss against Napoli prior to the international break.

"I don't want to see the players sit back during the game," Montella told the media (ACMilan.com) ahead of this week's game at Stadio Luigi Ferraris.

"Other than technical-tactical aspects which can be secondary, I expect greater hunger and responsibility from the boys," he added.

Montella spoke of a disappointment in the squad and a lack of confidence after the Udinese result.

"This team needs to improve with work and tactical awareness," the 42-year-old explained.

"We need time. We achieved something positive also last Sunday against Udinese. Unfortunately mistakes are more visible.

"I am used to hearing that we lack personality. I think that the project we are working on can actually give us more confidence."

Montella further remarked, "After two defeats in a row we need to climb up the table, and we will do everything we can to win Friday and next Tuesday against Lazio. This is why I want greater hunger and desire."

Milan have finished no higher than 7th in Serie A since a third place in 2012/13.
