Vincenzo Montella Praises AC Milan's Character After Thrilling Comeback Win

Published on: 03 October 2016

"?AC Milan manager Vincenzo Montella has praised his side's character after coming back from being 3-1 down to win 4-3 in their hotly contested match against Sassuolo at the San Siro on Sunday evening.

The Italian giants found themselves pegged back in the game after taking the initial lead, a strike from Giacomo Bonaventura put them ahead in the 9th minute, before their usually unbreakable defence fell apart, conceding three goals.

After the match, an elated Montella told Sky Italia: "We started the game very well. We went ahead deservedly.

"But then we lost security and clarity in our thinking, they took control, and in the second half we were stretched.

"We won with the character and showed a different feature in our game."

Goals from in-form striker Carlos Bacca, as well as Manuel Locatelli and the winner from Gabriel Paletta helped the team to a well fought victory, which places them 6th in the table after seven matches.

The fiery manager had to watch the second half from the stands after being dismissed following his reactions towards the referee.

After the incident he was left regretting his actions, stating: "I have no comment on the refereeing decisions. I'm sorry for what happened.

"I looked at the clock and the final whistle of the first half was as Bacca launched an attack. Maybe I exaggerated. I apologised to the referee, maybe I went a little over the top as well."

Milan have won four matches so far this season, and are currently five points behind leaders Juventus. They will be hoping to add to their 18 domestic titles, with their last win coming at the end of the 2010-11 season.

2 - Last time AC Milan had won a Serie A game coming back from 2 goals down was in October 2011 (from 0-3 to 4-3 vs Lecce). Belief.

This win by Milan over Sassuolo 4-3 reminds me of that match against Lecce, down 3-0 at half time.
Beating Sassuolo showed a new team spirit
