Tottenham's Heung-Min Son Allowed to Play for South Korea at Olympics

"?Tottenham striker Heung-Min Son has been granted permission to play for home country South Korea at the 2016 Summer Olympics, as reported by "?Sky Sports.

Following a mixed first season at White Hart Lane, Son is determined to represent his country in Rio as one of the three allotted over-23 players that every country is assigned. However, his involvement in the tournament would see him miss a large chunk of pre-season football for Spurs aswell as the start of the 2016/17 Premier League campaign.

"I was told that I would definitely be allowed to play in the Olympics. What's important is when.

"I would love to join my team-mates (in the Olympic team)... I'm trying to join them as soon as possible." said Son following his side's 2-1 victory over Czech Republic.

Son already has an Olympic bronze medal to his name as he was part of the South Korea team that finished 3rd just four years ago in London.

Usually clubs aren't permitted to release players over the age of 23 for these tournaments as they aren't organised by FIFA, but it appears as if an exception has been made for Son.

"I would like to join the Olympics team soon to help it win a medal for two Olympics in a row," he added.
