Tottenham are reportedly preparing to make Southampton midfielder Victor Wanyama one of their top targets this summer despite having their interest rebuffed last summer, London Evening Standard report.
Their interest in Wanyama comes after reports suggested the north London club were on the verge of signing Eredivisie top scorer Vincent Janssen from AZ Alkmaar for a reported £12m fee.
Mauricio Pochettino worked with the former Celtic defensive midfielder when the Argentinian was at the Saints and his desire to work with him again was clear when he tried to sign him last summer.
Southampton rejected Spurs' approach back then but it now appears Spurs are ready to reignite their interest in light of Wanyama's reluctance to sign a contract extension.
The Kenya international only has 12 months to run on his current contract and the Saints may deem it necessary to part with the midfielder this summer instead of seeing him go for nothing next summer.
Pochettino has been pictured on a number of suspected scouting missions with Champions League qualification this year throwing up the need for further reinforcements to cope with the extra demands as well as improving on their third place finish this season.
Signing Wanyama would provide further depth in midfield department with Eric Dier and Mousa Dembele playing predominately in the position.
But the Belgium international will be suspended for the first four games following the six-game ban handed to him for his behaviour in the ill-tempered match against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
