The England international opted to join Bournemouth over a move to Serie A side Roma. Wilshere has been ravaged by injuries in recent seasons and this loan move was encouraged to give him more playing time, whilst also keeping him fit.

Henry, speaking to "?Sky Sports News, feels that a move to Italy would have been a better fit for the 24-year-old. Henry said, "It's about time for Jack to have a full season. We all know what's happened to him with regards to his injuries, and he's been very unfortunate with that.

"He could have stayed at Arsenal and fought for his place but maybe he couldn't see it happening. Jack found himself in a situation where he had to play."

A number of clubs were interested in signing the Arsenal midfielder on loan for the season, with Roma the initial front runner, but Bournemouth were the ones who ultimately secured his services.

Henry though feels that this was ultimately a missed opportunity for the England midfielder. Henry went on to say, "We've all been in this kind of position where you are not sure of playing, but he opted to go away.

"I heard there could have been a move to Italy, but maybe he wanted to stay close to his family and London. I just think a move abroad can open your eyes to another game which you can bring back to Arsenal."

Wilshere is poised to make his Premier League debut for Bournemouth when his new team take on West Brom on Saturday.
