Thibaut Courtois Dreaming of Euro 2016 Success After Chelsea's Poor Season

Published on: 31 May 2016

Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has admitted the club endured a poor season last term in all competitions, but has stated he's now dreaming of winning Euro 2016 with Belgium.

According to the "?Star, the 24-year-old suggested that Chelsea's players should have recognised after their poor start to the last Premier League season that the defence of their title was over, but Courtois was also disappointed that his side failed to make an impression on any of the cup competitions.

The Blues were beaten by Everton in the FA Cup and were knocked out of the Champions League by Paris Saint Germain, and Courtois stated that his team didn't play to standard in any of the competitions they featured in.

He said: "We've clearly not had a good season. When you are way down the table after two or three months you should not be blind to the fact.

"You know it will not be possible to play a role in the title race. But we still had the FA Cup and Champions League.

"Yet we came up against Everton in the Cup? and they played better than us. Then we met Paris St-Germain in Europe and didn't play to our normal standard."

Courtois however now switches his attention to Euro 2016 with the Belgian national team, and admits he's determined to see his side reach the final of the competition in France.

He added: "We're dreaming of reaching the final. We are more outsiders than favourites but you need experience, which is something our squad has."

Belgium face Italy, Republic of Ireland and Sweden in the group stages.
