'They Choose the Money' Diego Maradona Blasts Gonzalo Higuain Over Move to Serie A Rivals Juventus

"?Argentina legend Diego Maradona has gone in hard on Juventus Striker Gonzalo Higuain, after his summer move from el Diego's former club Napoli.

Maradona represented the Partenopei as a player, and spent seven years playing for the Serie A side before moving to Sevilla.

In a typically candid interview with Marca, 56-year-old Maradona also stated that he wishes Napoli's Champions League round of 16 tie with last season's champions Real Madrid could be played sooner, due to the form of one Cristiano Ronaldo.

"I want [Madrid-Napoli] to be played today because Ronaldo is not at his best," the World Cup winner said.

"However, by February I think he'll be in top condition, as will his teammates."

Napoli's chances of toppling 11-time winners Madrid will be all the harder without former goal machine Higuain in their side.

Maradona is of the opinion that Napoli will regret selling Higuain to Juventus; something he insists he would have never done, if he were club president Aurelio de Laurentiis.

"I said last season that if Higuain scores 36 goals, it's a miracle and de Laurentiis knew how to use that to sell him, because he'd sell his own wife," he quipped.

"He saw Juve needed a striker and sold them one. I think these decisions should be made with the heart; I stayed with Napoli and Higuain joined Juventus.

"Times have changed. Before, I chose the shirt. Now, they choose the money."

Maradona remains an idol in Naples, after leading the unfancied side to two Serie A titles and a UEFA Cup in his stint during the eighties.
