"?Swansea City have contacted Liverpool over the signing of Mamadou Sakho as the Welsh club continue their attempts to strengthen a leaky defence and keep themselves in the Premier League, according to "?Wales Online

The Swans believe it is worth speaking to Liverpool over a potential deal for the Frenchman, who has been frozen out at Anfield by Jurgen Klopp after being sent home from the club's pre-season tour in the summer due to a lack of respect.

However, chances of a deal being completed remain slim as the Reds are demanding £20m for the centre-back, who they signed from Paris Saint-Germain in 2013 for £18m.

Sevilla and Galatasaray are also thought to be interested and, while both those clubs possess considerably more financial might than Swansea, they are confident that Sakho's preference to stay in the Premier League will help them edge out rivals.

Swansea manager Paul Clement confirmed that he would endeavour to sign defensive reinforcements as he looks to haul the club out of the relegation zone following a disastrous run of results under his predecessor Bob Bradley.

"I would not say an influx because there are good players in this team and this squad," Clement said.

"We've just got to make sure the players we bring in are better than what we've got, and in the key areas I think we need. We're looking to do something."

Swansea's American owners are prepared to back Clement in the transfer window, with his budget believed to be approximately £30m, but it remains to be seen if the club sanction a deal for Sakho, considering the defender's lack of recent playing time and hefty wage demands.
