Bojan Krki? spent his formative years at Barcelona being compared with fellow rising star Lionel Messi and while their careers ultimately took on very different trajectories, the Spaniard has finally recovered from his early setbacks, including anxiety attacks that plagued his international career.
The 25-year-old is an established star at Stoke City now, having become a comfortable first team favourite since joining the Potters in 2014.
Despite his fine form, he was never considered close to being called up for Vicente Del Bosque's Spain team to go to Euro 2016.
Bojan has revealed that he could have earned more than the one Spain cap he currently holds if it wasn't for anxiety attacks in 2008, as reported by "?ESPN.
"My parents and I were very nervous and I spent the night [of the Osasuna game] in hospital. It was from that point I started to feel dizzy every day," he said.
"It was a pretty strong anxiety attack, something I could not control. My body had reached a point of maximum tension.
"I want to be in the European Championship, but I can not. My body has said enough. I need to be calm and recover from this dizziness - it is very uncomfortable being dizzy 24 hours a day.
"I do not see myself prepared to travel and be with people, not now. It's not because I don't want to, I can not."
